The concept of this web site began in early 1999 and stemmed from my desire to learn about my great grandmother, Bridget Barr of Ballyloskey, Carndonagh, County Donegal, Ireland. I began over three year's ago with my father's personal journal (a journal he wrote primarily for his children).
Since that time, the amount of information I have received has been enormous, adding over 400 names and continuing to grow! My father has been re-united with family members that had previously been, through no fault of their own, estranged for over 25 years. I am rather proud to have been a small catalyst for that!
We have met up with a few of the Barr Dohertys (most importantly, Liz ('Elizabeth Barr-Doherty') and Duncan Mc Daniel) as well as seeing where Bridget was born. It was a moving experience and the relations we established I hope will be life-long lasting. Just recently Liz and her son, Jason, came to visit with the Mc Cauley side of the family . They left an impression upon us that secures family ties.
Thank you to everyone who has assisted along the way and a big "thank you" to Stephen Doherty for supplying Bridget's photograph (we all now know where our rather large forehead comes from!).
This site is for my father, Roger Mc Cauley ; it was through his guidance that we understand the importance of knowing our family ties.
